In 1988 I attended a preview screening of “Rain Man” with my college roommate Jeff. I walked out of the theater and said “That will be Best Picture at the Oscars.”
32 years later, Jeff and I have reconnected, and we went to see Parasite together. The only movie we’ve seen together since Rain Man. I walked out of that theater saying I thought it was the best picture I’d seen in decades, and it could very well be a double Oscar winner for both Best International Picture (formerly Best Foreign Language Picture) and Best Picture.
As Joseph Smith was wont to say, “Lo, and it came to pass…”
Bong Joon Ho and Parasite took home four of the six awards for which they were nominated: Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best International Feature, and Best Picture.
I’d love to think I had something to do with it, what with writing 6 different entries in this blog, and talking it up with every friend to the point they were ducking to avoid my spiel. But I know it really was a team effort: Jeff and I cause Best Pictures!
For a “reasonable” fee, we might attend your movie to confer our blessings. We are 2 for 2, and I don’t want to wait another 32 years to see a movie as good as Parasite again!
In all seriousness, congratulations to Bong Joon Ho and the ensemble cast and crew that made this magnificent movie.
